Le Rouge Alizarine

LE ROUGE FRANCAIS (France)

www.lerougefrancais.com; IG: @lerougefrancais

Le Rouge Français creates color cosmetics infused with plant-based pigments, with these pigments allowing the lipstick’s color to adapt to the natural tone and pH levels of the wearer’s lips. The lipstick employs dye pigments from flowers, which for Le Rouge Alizarine’s intense red shade contain alizarin, derived from Rubia tinctorum. This plant was reputedly used by Cleopatra to enhance her lip color. In the lipstick, alizarin combines with organic red pigments to create the striking shade.

The formula also contains shea butter to repair and nourish lips; apricot, sunflower, and castor oils that bring hydrating qualities; and plant-based rice bran, candelilla, and carnauba waxes to soften and protect. It boasts an ultra-smooth, creamy texture and matte-to-satin finish.  All of the ingredients are of natural origin, with 84.55% obtained via organic farming. The lipstick is COSMOS ORGANIC certified by Écocert Greenlife, according to the COSMOS standard. Its case, meanwhile, is made from a vegetable oil-based material and is refillable.

This lipstick’s intense red shade, called Le Rouge Alizarine, is created from the dye pigments from flowers, like all the tones in Le Rouge Français’s lipstick range. The brand uses alizarin, derived from the plant Rubia tinctorum, combined with organic red pigments, to achieve the lipstick’s striking color. One juror noted that they “love the pigments and that [the lipstick is] plant based.” Another liked the product’s “skinification approach,” with ingredients including shea butter to repair and nourish lips; apricot, sunflower, and castor oils with hydrating qualities; and plant-based rice bran, candelilla, and carnauba waxes to soften and protect. Jurors also appreciated how the plant-based pigments mean the shades adapt to the pH of each wearer’s lips. The lipstick is COSMOS ORGANIC certified by Écocert Greenlife, according to the COSMOS standard, and its case is made from a vegetable oil-based material and is refillable. Jurors praised the lipstick’s “sustainability and conscious beauty approach using plants for pigments,” and that this concept is “translated into the packaging.” “Beautiful package, love the green angle and the refillable aspect,” commented one judge.

Signature Shampoo

SMALL WONDER (United States)

The Signature Shampoo is a powder-to-lather shampoo that’s applied by dispensing a dose of the powder into the hands, lathering with water to activate, and then shampooing the hair. It is formulated with Small Wonder’s SHINE37 complex, with ingredients including jojoba oil for moisture; coconut oil to cleanse; Zea mays – or corn – for shine; guar, extracted from guar beans, to eliminate tangles; and kaolin to nourish the scalp. The shampoo’s powder format means it avoids using unnecessary fillers in its formula, alongside being water-less and free of preservatives. Its color-safe formula is intended to both clarify and hydrate hair, leaving it healthy-looking and shiny. Its powder formula also means that with each wash, the formula is freshly activated. Its scent, meanwhile, blends notes of lemon, cedarwood, and lilies.

One juror called the shampoo a “great solution to the ‘water issue’ with shampoos, and certainly a much more innovative solution than shampoo bars.” Another pointed out that the shampoo solves the difficulty of dispensing a powder in the shower, as it “actually dispenses easily and cleanly.” The shampoo is formulated with Small Wonder’s SHINE37 complex, with ingredients including jojoba oil for moisture; coconut oil to cleanse; Zea mays – or corn – for shine; guar, extracted from guar beans, to eliminate tangles; and kaolin to nourish the scalp. Jurors also liked the product’s scent, which blends notes of lemon, cedarwood, and lilies; that its waterless formula contains no fillers; and that it could be used when traveling.

Never Have I Ever works with nail artists to license their designs, turning their creations into press-on nails that provide the wearer with instant nail art in a reusable, press-on format. The press-on nails are presented in sets of 24 nails, that include glue and two sheets of nail tabs, so the nails can be worn continuously, or for a few days on and off. The press-on nails are suitable for re-use on at least five separate occasions. Among the designs that the brand offers are pastel bow motifs created by artist Zoe Wodarz; glittery, brocade-like designs by New York streetwear brand DAWANG; and bold, color-infused patterns by artist Machée Kelly.

The “fun concept and design” of Never Have I Ever’s press-on nails, which feature designs licensed from nail artists, won plaudits from the jurors. “The patterns are very colorful and will appeal to [a] young audience,” said one juror. Another liked that the nails are reusable, with the “acetate packaging… attractive for an on-shelf presence.”

OREN MEDICAL (China)

#LushLip #WhereDoYOUShine? #MetamorphosisRedLightTherapy

This LED mask promises to plump the lips with 38 targeted LEDs, leaving the lips looking fuller, more defined, and more youthful with continued use. Shaped to lie flat against the lips, the device combines red light of 630 nm, amber light of 605 nm, deep red light of 660 nm, and near-infrared light of 880 nm. They act together to affect an ATP, or adenosine triphosphate, energy change within the dermis. (ATP is described as a cell’s energy currency, triggering its regenerative responses.) The device has a three-minute timer for each treatment, and is held in place with medical-grade, hypoallergenic, double-sided, PVC-transparent stickers, which allow the LEDs to penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin. The device is FDA 510(k) cleared in the US, meaning it can be marketed as safe and effective, and treats signs of aging including vapers or smokers’ lines around the mouth, wrinkles, lip creases, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines.

Jurors liked this lip-focused LED mask’s “interesting concept” with “amazing social value.” The lip-shaped mask, with 38 targeted LEDs, is designed in medical-grade silicone to sit flat against the lips, and combines red light of 630 nm, amber light of 605 nm, deep red light of 660 nm, and near-infrared light of 880 nm. These light frequencies act together to affect an ATP, or adenosine triphosphate energy change within the dermis, triggering skin cells’ regenerative response. This is said to leave the lips looking fuller, more defined, and more youthful with continued use. One juror loved that the mask is “hands-free,” with one noting that the mask “looks fun and approachable but still efficacious.” And the outer packaging – a faceted pink compact – was deemed “very cool” by the panel.
